AWB Policy Team
Sheri Nelson is AWB’s director of government affairs for health care. She joined AWB in 2013, bringing an extensive background in marketing, communications and government affairs.
She spent 10 years as community relations manager for the forest products company Sierra Pacific Industries, where she was a key liaison with state, federal and local governments. She was part of the executive team that sited, built and acquired new Sierra Pacific sites around western Washington. She began work at Sierra Pacific Industries in 2001 as human resource supervisor before becoming community relations manager for Washington when SPI expanded operations in 2004.
Before joining SPI, Nelson worked in a corporate capacity for a number of franchisees along with an employee benefit corporation. She has also served as counselor for a nonprofit early intervention center and as director of a community foundation.
Her community service and memberships include work with the Pacific-Mountain Workforce Development Board, Skagit Business Alliance Board, Career and Technical Education Development Advisory Board, the Economic & Development Association of Skagit County, the Centralia-Chehalis Chamber, Grays Harbor Chamber, Grays Harbor YMCA, and the Grays Harbor College Foundation Board. She has served as president of the Aberdeen Rotary and is also a former member of the AWB Board of Directors.
Nelson holds a bachelor of science degree in social and behavioral science from Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore.
