AWB honors legislative, business leader at inaugural black-tie event
Association of Washington Business presented its annual Legislator of the Year and Heavy Lifter awards at first-ever Evening of Excellence in Seattle Nov. 30
OLYMPIA — The state's largest business organization paid tribute to the year’s top state lawmaker and top AWB volunteer for their work on behalf of the state’s employers at Benaroya Hall in Seattle on Nov. 30.
Sen. Linda Evans Parlette, R-Wenatchee, received the organization’s Legislator of the Year Award for her work in the 2016 legislative session and her two decades of work on behalf of the business community on health care and agricultural issues in the Legislature. Her final term in the state Senate concludes in January.
“Senator Parlette has been a great leader for the business community during her 20 years of service to the 12th Legislative District and to the state of Washington,” said Gary Chandler, AWB vice president, government affairs. “Her background and familiarity with agriculture and health care issues provided her with valuable insight during many debates on water and health care policy. And, she has been a strong supporter of business issues in general as evidenced by her 96 percent lifetime voting record with AWB.”
Ron Bueing, the long-time chair of AWB’s Tax and Fiscal Policy Committee and member of the Citizen Commission for Performance Measurement of Tax Preferences, was presented with AWB’s Heavy Lifter Award for lending his time and expertise on tax policy to AWB, its membership and elected officials.
“Ron is a tireless advocate for the employer community, helping us understand complex and confusing tax issues being considered,” said AWB President Kris Johnson. “He has been the bedrock of our tax policy discussions for many years, lending his expertise to AWB members and staff as well as testifying on issues in Olympia. He has earned this honor with his many years of service. We are incredibly grateful he is on our team.”
