AWB hosts annual Spring Meeting May 12-13 in Spokane

Highlights include presentation of Environmental Excellence Awards, update on the Export-Import Bank, and award presentation to former U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings

OLYMPIA — Bob Lutz, the legendary automotive executive, will deliver the keynote address next week at the annual Spring Meeting of the Association of Washington Business in Spokane. AWB is Washington’s largest and oldest association representing small, medium and large employers in a variety of industries.

The two-day meeting begins with the presentation of AWB’s 2015 Environmental Excellence Awards. Jim Bruce, senior vice president for public affairs, energy and environment at UPS, will keynote the awards luncheon celebrating some of Washington’s most environmentally conscious employers.

Afternoon sessions will include a panel discussion on the Export-Import Bank, the federal bank that provides crucial financing and loan guarantees to U.S.-based exporters. Congress is currently debating renewal of the bank’s charter, which is set to expire at the end of June. More than 230 Washington employers rely on the bank’s services, including 152 small businesses.

Other highlights include presentation of C. David Gordon Award to former U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings for his service to the state of Washington, and a graduation ceremony for the inaugural class of Leadership Washington, a new program aimed at cultivating the next generation of industry leaders.

The AWB Spring Meeting is a members-only event. However, members of the news media are invited to attend the awards presentation, panel discussions and keynote address on Tuesday. Please R.S.V.P. to Jason Hagey/AWB at 360.94.1600 or
