AWB announces 2017 candidate endorsements
OLYMPIA — The Association of Washington Business announced the following candidate endorsements Monday:
District Position Name Party
7 State Senator Shelly Short R
7 State Rep. Pos. 1 Jacquelin Maycumber R
31 State Senator Phil Fortunato R
31 State Rep. Pos. 2 Morgan Irwin R
45 State Senator Jinyoung Lee Englund R
AWB candidate endorsements are the result of a months-long process that includes member input and candidate interviews.
“This is an important election that will determine not only the direction of the state’s economy, but also which political party holds the majority in the state Senate,” AWB President Kris Johnson said. “Our members believe Senate candidates Jinyoung Lee Englund, Phil Fortunato and Shelly Short and House candidates Morgan Irwin and Jacquelin Maycumber understand employer concerns well and are committed to improving the health of our economy in every corner of Washington.
“While it’s true that parts of the state are thriving, prosperity remains uneven and other areas, particularly in rural Washington, continue to lag,” Johnson added. “That’s why it’s so important that voters elect candidates who understand the needs of small, medium and large employers and the challenges they face every day. We also believe there is value in a divided government, even though it can be frustrating at times. Bringing together people with diverse ideas and requiring them to find common ground makes Washington a better place for employers and families and ultimately strengthens communities.”
