Manufacturing careers in the spotlight throughout October
October is all about manufacturing.
The month began with the governor proclaiming it "Careers in Manufacturing Month" and the launch of a website -- created jointly by WorkSource, the state Employment Security Department and AWB -- aimed at connecting skilled workers with the manufacturing sector.
Those announcements come just as AWB's second-annual Manufacturing Week bus tour will gets underway tomorrow morning at Callisons in Lacey.
After that, the AWB team, local leaders, members of Congress and the Legislature, chamber executives and others will be on the road Oct. 4-12, hitting towns of all sizes and visiting manufacturers and their employees across the state. In all, the brightly wrapped bus will travel more than 1,400 miles over seven full days, making more than 50 stops.
WorkSource staff will join AWB along the tour to promote the new website and the tools it provides that make it easier for employers to post open positions and to find and hire qualified candidates. The site is also geared for those looking for a manufacturing job to post a resume and find employment opportunities that fit their skills.
Employers can visit WorkSourceWA.com to create an account and post open positions or search for candidates today.
Manufacturing is vital to Washington's economy, employing more than 282,000 people, and it's a sector that needs our support.
