Alex McGregor to give keynote address at Rural Jobs Summit Oct. 23-24

By: Bobbi Cussins   Comments: 1
We started the discussion on rural job creation - and barriers to it - last March. Next Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 23-24, we'll continue the dialogue at AWB's statewide Rural Jobs Summit at Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake.

And, who better to kick off the event and share what rural Washington needs to grow economic opportunity than Alex McGregor, president of The McGregor Company, a 100-year-old agricultural company based in Eastern Washington? He'll give the opening keynote address Oct. 24, starting what will be a  jam-packed day of issue panels and breakout sessions.

A passionate advocate for helping foster a better understanding of rural economic needs with his urban counterparts, McGregor will share his experience in a family-owned enterprise and some of the barriers employers face in today's political and regulatory climate.

McGregor is one of the stars of AWB's 2017 Grow Here employer image campaign, where he shared the story of farming and its importance to small towns across Washington.

That's just the start of the day's full agenda for the Rural Jobs Summit, which kicks off Monday, Oct. 23, with an evening reception. The event hits full stride Tuesday with McGregor and day of issue-focused panels - from state agencies to rural airport infrastructure and exporting to water issues - that are sure to give attendees a broader understanding of the work ahead to expand economic opportunity outside the central Puget Sound region.

Top legislative leaders fro both parties, local officials and economic development and port representatives will also be part of the day's programming.

The event is sold out. Contact Kelli Schueler to be put on a waiting list.
