Skylar Olsen of Zillow to Keynote AWB Legislative Day
Olsen will give a “State of the Economy” address during lunch at the annual event Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Hotel RL in Olympia.
AWB members may remember Olsen from last year’s Legislative Day and Hill Climb where she, alongside Steve Scranton, chief investment officer and economist at Washington Trust Bank, offered economic perspectives from both the east and west sides of the state.
“Housing prices, unlike in the past, are now linked to fundamentals such as the job market and other elements that make an economy strong,” she said.
Last year, Olsen explained that while the Puget Sound region is booming with higher wages and job growth, the trend is not happening throughout the entire state.
Olsen joined Zillow in 2012 and has created many of Zillow’s real estate metrics, including the Buyer-Seller Index and the Buy-Rent Breakeven Horizon. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Washington and specializes in the unique patterns of housing and demographic change. Her research includes authoring numerous research projects, including: A House Divided – How Race Colors the Path to Homeownership.
The Legislative Day and Hill Climb is an annual event where legislators, policy and business leaders, and agency representatives share visions for future budget negotiations, funding for K-12 education, and whether higher taxes for employers and residents are necessary as the governor proposed last month.
