New $4.3 million federal grant will help address impacts of JBLM downsizing

Gov. Jay Inslee announced last week that the federal government is giving the state $4.3 million to address the impact of downsizing at Joint Base Lewis McChord, which is predicted to eliminate 16,000 soldiers and civilian workers.

The military sector in Washington state accounted for 136,000 jobs and $15.7 billion in economic activity in 2012, with 1,500 companies doing defense work in 35 of 39 Washington counties.

Seattle Weekly has more about the impact of cuts at JBLM.
