SB 5299 and SB 5531: Pregnancy accommodation

The Senate Commerce, Labor and Sports Committee held public hearings this afternoon on two bills that provide workplace accommodations for pregnancy.

Senate Bill 5299 requires employers to provide reasonable accommodation in employment for pregnancy unless the accommodation would impose an undue hardship on the employer's business. It also requires certain health care facilities to establish skin-to-skin contact and room-in policies for newborn infants. It creates a Healthy Pregnancy Advisory Committee to develop a strategy to improve health outcomes for mothers and infants

Senate Bill 5531 provides reasonable accommodations in the workplace for pregnant women by requiring employers to provide reasonable accommodation in employment for pregnancy-related or childbirth-related health conditions, unless the accommodation would impose an undue hardship on the employer's business.
