2013 Week 8: Association Health Plans, State Revenue Forecast, and Transportation
For the Mar. 8, 2013 Friday Phone Briefing, Jocelyn McCabe, AWB vice president of communications, is joined by Matt Canedy, AWB government affairs director for education and health care policy; Richard Davis, president of the Washington Research Council; and Gary Chandler, AWB vice president of government affairs.
Matt Canedy led off with updates on health care and education legislation. In the health care arena, the focus is on an effort to protect Association Health Plans. Canedy also provided an overview of a package of education reform bills the Senate approved Wednesday and Thursday.
Richard Davis offered a preview of the state revenue forecast set for March 20 in light of preliminary numbers announced this week.
Finally, Gary Chandler gave an update on transportation.This week saw the release of polling indicating a lack of support for any one transportation funding source. Chandler addressed the numbers and new transportation proposals unveiled Thursday by the House GOP. He also touched on efforts to prevent the Seattle sick leave ordinance from spreading throughout the state.
