AWB Member Advantage/Benefit Programs

CompWise Retro

Did you know your business can receive a refund  on workers’ compensation payments?

Enroll in AWB CompWise and receive refunds on the premiums you pay to the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries. AWB CompWise has excellent refund history with some companies receiving refunds of over 80 percent due to our merit-based refund formula.

In addition to saving your company money, AWB CompWise provides valuable tools for maintaining a safe workplace and running a successful business.

How does the program work?

As an AWB CompWise member, you’ll benefit from joining together with other companies that have superior claims experience to maximize your refund potential and minimize risk.

Members continue to pay their quarterly workers’ compensation premiums to the Washington Department of Labor and Industries. The group’s premiums are pooled together, and at the end of the plan year, if premiums exceed claims costs, surplus premium dollars are refunded to members. AWB CompWise aggressively and proactively manages claims and monitors each member’s safety performance to ensure results are positive for the group. The group refund is the total premiums minus the cost of claims.

Qualifying firms will be screened to ensure they meet the group’s performance standards. Each company’s performance quality is regulated in order to increase the group’s refund potential.

At this time, groups are available for firms in the following industries:

  • Manufacturing
  • Service/Retail/Wholesale
  • Hospitality
  • Temporary Employment

Participants must also be a member of the Association of Washington Business. Most companies recover the cost of AWB dues with their first AWB CompWise retro refund.

"This is a great program. Not only do we save money, but we've also found it a benefit to have such knowledgeable folks to call with workers comp related questions." -- Karen B, Pacific Aero Tech
