Ports of Seattle and Tacoma announce historic cooperation agreement

An historic cooperative agreement announced by the ports of Seattle and Tacoma last week will create the nation's third-largest container port and end a long history of "corrosive competition."

After months of closed-door meetings, leaders of the two ports announced a new Seaport Alliance to improve service reliability and make Puget Sound the destination of choice for shipments arriving from Asia.

John Wolfe, CEO of the Port of Tacoma, will lead the new Seaport Alliance. Details of the cooperative agreement will be hammered out over the next several months. The Alliance will begin operating the two ports' shipping business by early summer of next year if all goes as planned.

The News Tribune, Seattle Times and Puget Sound Business Journal covered the story. Watch leaders of the two ports announce their agreement in this video.
