Biden visits Renton Technical College, touts importance of jobs skills and training

Renton Technical College, which is receiving $1.2 million for technical skills training, received a visit from the vice president last week.

Joe Biden said community and technical colleges are a vital path to reviving the middle class, according to The Seattle Times. RTC's $1.2 million grant is part of a $10 million allocation to Washington state and $450 million from the U.S. Department of Labor for 270 different training programs around the nation, according to The News Tribune.

Biden noted that six in 10 jobs in years ahead will require a degree or certification beyond high school, but those aren't all four-year degrees. Training at community and technical colleges is exactly what workers — and employers — need, Biden said. He praised the ways two-year colleges connect businesses with potential employees, according to KIRO TV.
