15-city small business tour sheds light on plight of state's small operators



From Colville to Vancouver, Tri-Cities to Everett and towns in between, the AWB Government Affairs team hit the road this summer to meet with small-business owners in every corner of the state. They heard about the issues and challenges facing small business during the 15-stop tour.

The tour has shaped AWB small business agenda for the upcoming session that begins Jan. 9.

Among the many concerns and issues, a few topics kept coming up: the cost of health care is rising as access and benefits are decreasing; there is widespread difficulty finding a skilled and trained workforce; and the attitude from the Department of Labor & Industries is often suspicious toward business, with a “how do you get business” versus a “work with business” attitude.

Washington Business magazine has more on the tour in an article in the fall 2016 edition.
