AWB hosts first gubernatorial debate, five other statewide candidate debates

Key statewide offices were up for grabs this election season and AWB was there to offer voters the information they needed to make a vote for business in the November elections.

The longest serving lieutenant governor in the nation, Brad Owen, announced his retirement earlier this year. That prompted 11 candidates to file to fill the vacant seat in 2017.

Eight of them met on AWB's Spring Meeting debate stage June 14 to share their vision for the office and the role they see the lieutenant governor playing as president of the state Senate come January 2017. The full debate can be watched here.

But, that was just the beginning.

In August, AWB hosted the first gubernatorial debate of 2016 and a debate between secretary of state candidates Tina Podlodowski, a Democrat, and incumbent Secretary of State Kim Wyman, a Republican, at Spokane Falls Community College.

Feisty at times, the debates were aired live and streaming on media partner KHQ-TV. Olympia Business Watch blog details the two debates.

At AWB’s Policy Summit in September, members heard from the top two candidates running for the state office of superintendent of public instruction, commissioner of public lands and state auditor.

From these debates, AWB’s board voted on its endorsements in the races.

Videos of all the debates can be watched here.
