Fraud prevention has never been so critical. Since 2005, more than 80% of unauthorized access to card data has involved small merchants. According to Visa, these businesses account for 85% of the seven million locations nationwide that accept plastic for payment. All merchants (regardless of business size) are required to adopt the security standards in accordance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI/DSS) to prevent account information from falling into the wrong hands. Many merchants are not even aware these standards exist or know what to do.
