Understanding Employer Obligations

Seattle’s new ordinance requires employers to provide paid sick/safe time to employees.  It becomes effective September 1, 2012.  The law imposes new obligations on employers related to paid sick/safe time accrual, usage, carry-over, and notice requirements.  Join us in this seminar to learn about Seattle’s paid sick/safe leave law and how the new law will affect your existing policies and practices.  We will discuss hypothetical scenarios to illustrate how the law is applied and to provide guidance for compliance.

Topics include:

Which Employers and Employees are Covered
How Much Sick/Safe Time is Required
What to do about Paid Sick/Safe Time Accrual, Usage, and Carry Over
PTO Policies – What is Expected
Notice and Documentation Requirements
Prohibited Discipline/Retaliation
Fines, Penalties, and Remedies
Examples and Compliance Guidance
