Awards spotlight environmental innovation, cutting-edge technology, conservation
SPOKANE— The Association of Washington Business today honored 12 companies for environmental innovation, initiative and sustainability. The 2011 Environmental Excellence Awards were presented at a luncheon held in conjunction with the association’s annual Spring Meeting at Spokane’s Davenport Hotel.
“Whether it’s organic farming, recycling or educating the public about best environmental practices, the companies we celebrate today have become industry leaders for finding innovative, sustainable solutions to ongoing challenges,” said AWB President Don Brunell. “Research confirms that Washington state is one of the ‘greenest’ states in the county, leading the way in everything from renewable resources to venture capital investments in clean projects. The companies we honor today further underscore that distinction and will help us grow our economy in new, innovative and sustainable ways.”
AWB’s Environmental Excellence Awards recognize member companies for exemplary innovations and achievements in environmental protection, conservation and compliance. The awards showcase companies that act to create a better environment, manufacture products that increase environmental quality, conserve resources, and establish processes that improve the environment, including education and business operations.
A panel of AWB members reviewed nearly 30 applications based on a variety of factors, including unique and innovative environmental solutions and tangible economic and environmental benefits.
