WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va.—The Association of Washington Business (AWB) took top honors in three membership categories in national competition sponsored by the Association of State Chamber of Commerce Professionals (ASCP). AWB, Washington’s state chamber of commerce and manufacturing association also was a finalist for the nation’s top chamber President’s Award.
Competing against state chambers from around the nation, AWB ranked first in categories including highest membership growth in numbers, highest retention in numbers, and highest market share. AWB also received the runner-up award for highest retention dollars. In 2006, AWB took two honorable mentions.
"These awards are the highest honors a state chamber can receive," AWB President Don C. Brunell said. Brunell is chair of the Council of State Chambers of Commerce (COSC).
The awards were presented by ASCP at the annual COSC meeting at the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. AWB Vice President for Operations Dick Walter received the awards on AWB’s behalf.
"Finishing behind the Louisiana Association of Business and Industries (LABI) for recognition as the nation’s top chamber is an honor," Brunell said. LABI was honored for its work helping the state and its members recovering from Hurricane Katrina. In 2005, AWB received the President’s Award as the nation’s top state chamber of commerce.
