OLYMPIA – The Association of Washinton Business awarded Lori Blau of Ponderay Newsprint, Usk, the S. Fred Bruhn Award for her service on AWB’s Board of Directors, Executive Committee and as chair of AWB’s Environmental Council.
Lori received the award at AWB’s annual Policy Summit at Semiahmoo Resort.
She is an engineering graduate of Washington State University, Pullman. She and her husband, Pat, live in Spokane. They have two school-aged children. She is the manager of environmental services for Ponderay, a company which is a subsidiary of Bowater Paper Co. which is headquartered in Greenville, NC. The Usk mill, located northeast of Spokane on the Ponderay River, produces newsprint.
"Lori is one of the most dedicated AWB members," Don Brunell, AWB president said. "It is often difficult for her to come to the state capitol for meetings and be a mom with a demanding job, but she has taken the lead on issues including toxics, air and water quality and is highly respected for her knowledge and leadership."
The coveted Bruhn Award was established to honor SAFECO’s Senior Vice President S. Fred Bruhn, a longtime AWB board member and governmental council chairman. It is presented annually to recognize those board members who give of themselves and their time to improve AWB and the business climate in Washington.
