AWB Honors Local Companies with Community Service Awards

SPOKANE—The Association of Washington Business has honored 16 companies and two individuals for contributions to their communities. AWB presented its annual Community Service Awards during its 2006 Spring Board Meeting in Spokane, May 23.

In addition to the companies selected, AWB also honored Pat and Susan Dunn, who have been involved in several Olympia and Seattle community service projects, with the Bruce Briggs Award. This award recognizes an individual’s efforts on behalf of his or her community.

“The companies receiving this award recognize the importance being good neighbors in their communities,” AWB President Don Brunell said. “All of them have invested substantial time, money and other resources to improve their corner of the state.”

This year’s Community Service Award winners are:
• Teck Cominco Pend Oreille Mine, Metaline Falls, for community beautification;
• Schweitzer Engineering Labs, Pullman, for its continuing commitment to education;
• Rowley Properties, Inc., Issaquah, for helping people in need;
• Brown and Brown Insurance, Tacoma, for helping people in need;
• Community Health Plan, Seattle, for helping people in need;
• Landau Associates, Inc., Edmonds, for helping people in need;
• Nucor Steel, Inc., Seattle, for helping people in need;
• Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Richland, for helping people in need;
• Sound Community Bank, Seattle, for helping people in need;
• Cispus Learning Center, Randle, for continuing commitment to projects that mobilize people;
• Clark Nuber, Bellevue, for continuing commitment to projects that mobilize people;
• Weyerhaeuser Co., Federal Way, for continuing commitment to projects that mobilize people;
• Pacific Power, Walla Walla, for recognizing volunteerism;
• Petersen Brothers, Sumner, for recognizing volunteerism;
• Fluor Corporation, Richland, for continuous commitment for projects that mobilize people and youth organizations;
• Terra Resource Group, Everett, for helping people in need, projects that mobilize people and recognizing volunteerism;
• Ron Wachter, NuChem Limited, Pullman, individual recognition; and
• Karen Matison, Petersen Brothers, Sumner, individual recognition.
