OLYMPIA - Association of Washington Business members elected Kirk Nelson, Qwest Communications Washington President, as Chair of the Board for 2007. Nelson will serve as chair for a one-year term, ending in September 2007.
“In the past six years, AWB has nearly doubled its membership to more than 6,000 members,” Nelson said. He attributes AWB’s success to its basic principle of serving its members first. “I think this increase in membership clearly demonstrates the value AWB provides to its members, the state's economy and the community—something I intend to continue as current chair.”
“Kirk is a unique leader who has risen quickly,” AWB President Don Brunell said. “His ability to inspire others and drive good decisions will serve our organization in way that may never be matched.”
Nelson has served as Washington President for Qwest Communications for more than seven years. He plans to use his experience at Qwest to expand AWB even further. “In the next year, I'd like to see us continue to increase our membership, work with the Legislature in a bipartisan way, continue to build our partnerships and expand out coalitions,” Nelson said.
AWB has also elected Evergreen Memorial Gardens President Brad Carlson as Vice Chair, Premera Blue Cross Senior Vice President of Congressional and Legislative Affairs of Premera Blue Cross Jack McRae as Secretary-Treasurer, and retired Vice President of Weyerhaeuser Creigh H. Agnew as Immediate Past Chair.
