OLYMPIA – Rob McKenna spoke to Association of Washington Business (AWB) members this morning to lay out his plan for securing the Washington State Attorney General’s seat on Election Day.
McKenna says he has big plans for helping Washington state residents if he is elected attorney general.
“I think you need an attorney general who remembers that the [attorney general] doesn’t just represent the agencies,” McKenna said. “As the Supreme Court has pointed out, the first duty of the attorney general is to represent the people of Washington.”
One of McKenna’s campaign focal points is bringing about tort reform.
“Tort reform is the most important issue the A.G. needs to focus on right now. Everywhere I go in the state, it’s an issue that resonates,” said McKenna.
McKenna says the issue affects a broad spectrum of people from farmers and small business people, to doctors and even average citizens.
“When Catholic Community Services joined the Liability Reform Coalition, that really sent an important signal that this issue goes way beyond the members of AWB,” he said.
McKenna added that the attorney general’s office plays a vital role in the state of business in Washington and should be taken into great consideration when residents cast their votes in November.
“The attorney general’s office writes or at least reviews nearly every regulation that ends up in the WAC,” McKenna said. “The attorney general also has a major role in writing and/or reviewing agency requests to legislation.”
A video of McKenna’s speech will be made available at www.awb.org.
