The fledgling Washington Business Magazine received its second consecutive Award of Merit from the American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) in the 2003 communications competition.
ACCE judges magazines from hundreds of state and local chambers from throughout the nation and the competition is very stiff, AWB President Don Brunell said. “It is like winning a second straight Olympic bronze medal.”
ACCE also presented AWB with an Award of Excellence for its coalition building in 2003. “That is like winning a silver medal,” Brunell added. The judges were particularly impressed by AWB’s work with the Coalition of Washington Business Organizations (COWBO).
In 2002, AWB received an ACCE Award of Merit for the Washington Alliance for a Competitive Economy (WashACE). WashACE is the partnership AWB developed with the Washington Roundtable and the Washington Research Council to promote the state’s competitiveness.
This year, AWB’s Web site also received an ACCE honorable mention. “That is quite good considering the vast number of entries in that field,” Brunell added.
In another competition, Publications Management also awarded AWB a Magnum Opus Award Honorable Mention for 2003. “A big part of that recognition was Washington Business Magazine,” according to Brunell. The prestigious University of Missouri School of Journalism provides the Magnum Opus judging. The Magnum Opus competition includes all business publications and AWB competed against companies like Verizon and The Walt Disney Company. “An honorable mention among this group is quite an accomplishment,” Brunell concluded.
